Outlook:The Austin High Maroons went back to bottom of the basement in district 14-5A. The Maroons haven't made the playoffs since University of Pittsburgh signee Grant Elam led them in 1996. Since the Maroons crack for the first time since 1978 in 1995, they have have 3 coaches later. Coach Lee Bridges now coach the Killeen Kangaroos and Stan Mauldin was fired after his only season in 1996. Moss has about 12-15 underclassmen starting for the '99 Maroons. Last year, the wishbone offense was used in disgrace by the Maroons. The Maroons lost seven in a row to end the season. That awlful performance may get clearer only if the Maroons can run it correctly. QB Zach Meyer returns for his thrid season on varsity and they have high expectations of out FB Jordan Stone to repeat his 495 yard on 95 carries peformance. Meyer ran the wishbone offense in gaining 560 yards, and passing for 527 yards. The defense is a laughing stock. The gave up so many points and are slow. The defense gave up 48 to Bowie, 54 to Westwood, 45 to Coppres Cove, 63 to Westlake, and 35 to McNeil. The Maroons were blank 4 times last season, that's 40% of the season. The Maroons only challenged three teams last season, and yet scored only scored once vs. Seguin, New Braunfels, Westlake, and twice to Bowie. The Maroons can expect to miss the playoffs again and won't contend until after Y2K.

Strength: A team like this doesn't have any strenghts. Meyer is only an average player on a low profile team. He alone cannot score points for a team that average just a mere 8.2 points per game.

Weakness: Everything. The OL needs to be improved because they can't block. The RB was a problem last season because RB Nate Montgomerey got kick off the team for a drug bust in school. RB Stone is white, the defense is crap and slow, and even the special teams can return anything. The whole team in a rebuilding stage for the next 4 or 5 years.
