Head Coach: Larry Moore (32-42)
1998 Record: 8-5 (4-1 in district)
Playoffs: Defeated New Braunfels 36-15, defeated The Woodlands 15-12 (OT), lost to Lufkin 35-28 (2 OT)
Lettermans lost: (32) RB/DB Jomo Rose, DE/RB Jake Morman, DB Russel Zahasky, DT Matt Zappa, DB/RB James Carranco, C Jacob Bingham, DE Jeremy Clayman, LB Travis Halfman, QB Joel Newman, DT Russell Sims, DB Joel Knight, DL John Little,
Returning starters: (7) RB/DE Brandon Williams, QB Blake Moorman, RB/DB Nathan McWherther, LB Brian Ruby, OG Preston Bryan, OG Kevin Breenan, OT James Denson
Outlook: The Georgetown Eagles were picked to finished fourth but ended up going deep into the playoffs. The Eagles opened last season with a one-point loss to the Chaps. The season started 1-3 before the Eagles won 7 of their last 8 games before the loss to Lufkin. The Eagles main threat was RB/DB Jomo Rose, who signed with Baylor. He did it all for them last season, ran, tackled, return kicks. This season QB Blake Moorman takes over full time under center. He will look to WRs Nick Otto and Danny German. But the man that is to be the biggest impact is RB Brandon Williams. He recorded 136 tackles, 13 sacks, 2 fumble recovries last season. This year he has the job of replacing Rose at tailback. The offensive line has all district Preston Bryan and potential Kevin Brenan. On the other side of the ball, the Eagles will play Williams and hope DB Nathan McWherther and LB Brain Ruby can provide the defense from last season's squad.
Strength: Williams and McWherther are solid players on both sides of the ball and will put the Eagles in good shape of replacing Rose. The offensive line is nicely built and Moorman can throw.
Weakness: The defensive line is a question. Will fatigue hurt Williams at defensive end and willit hurt McWherther? Patrick Sugrue had been quoted with swift moves and intellgence by coach Moore. TE/DE Jason Kaehler is another top prospect on the line.
