Head Coach: Tim Kingsbury (26-20)
1998 Record: 6-5 (3-2 in district)
Playoffs: Lost to Georgetown 33-15

Returning starters: (11) C Geoffrey Hangartner, WR/P Eric Sultimeier, RB Daniel Strange, G Scott Wilson, TE Micael Garcia, T Joel Gonzales, FB Joe Hanover, WR Cody Chapman, DT Brad Marschall, DB Jared Fellers, DB Cody Erben
Outlook: The New Braunfels Unicorns return 36 seniors, 18 letterman, after losing 29 to graduation. The biggest returnee is 6'6" 282 lb C Geoffrey Hangartner. The play of the offensive will virtually decide if the Unicorns can produce the offense almost defeated Westlake in Westlake last season. However, the QB Murray Holden is gone and QB Andy Schmid has very little experience. In the backfield returns Daniel Strange. He gaine 832 yards last season. WR Eric Sultemeier caught 28 passes for 336 yards and will be getting the ball more if the Unicrons are expected to keep their passing tradition up. The shotgun formation hepled New Braunfels gain 1,672 yards passing and 1,338 yards on the ground. On defense teh Unicorns hope the offense can make up for an inexperienced defense. DT Brad Marschall had 48 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries last season. He and DBs Cody Erben andJared Fellers must stepped up and emerge as leaders. DB Clay Coleman will return to the defense after an injury.
Strength: Their size. With Hangartner at 6'2", 282 and G Scott Wilson (6'1" 254) and T Joel Gonzales (5'10" 230) the Unicorns should be in good shape to bring their wide open attack of an offense.
Weakness: The defense is a concern with players stepping up from JV. However, their are 36 seniors who they can test out during the non-district matchups and prepare them for district. The Unicorns also need a fullback to help block for Strange who doesn't have explosiveness or the strength to plow over people. Schmid will have the proctection and must emerge quickly into a starting quarterback like former QBs Klingsbury and Holden.
