Outlook: First year coach Bobby Ortiz will try and help guide the Seguin Matadors to their first playoff appearance in six years. Last season under Mark Smith, the Matadors were 3-7 but began the season with two shutouts. Seguin's offense couldn't produce much which led them to another dismale season. Seguin has a record of 10-39-1 in the past five seasons. The Matadors averaged 194.5 yards ppg. QB Craig Dailey ranked 11th among area quarterbacks with 727 pasing yards, 2 TDs, and 10 interceptions in nine games. The running game is weak with 200 lbRB Alvin Jones. He only gained 416 yards on 104 carries and 2 TDs. This season the Matadors swap players on both sides of the ball. DE Manual Garcia will move to the OL. LB John Sherill will move from the OL play on a defense that gave up 277.8 yards ppg. Returning defense stars who got all district mentionable are DE Gabe Flores, DE Rgio Vargas, LB Paris Kincaid, and a 240 lb surplus help from DL Mark Rangel. Look for Seguin to provide low scoring games because of their solid defense.

Strength: The defense. Seguin can keep up in games. They shutout Edison and Harlandale, kept San Marcos and Austin High to one touchdown last season. Kincaid is quick and hard hitting. DE Vargas was second-team all district last season.

Weakness: The offense. You need a balance to win in Texas football. Seguin doesn't have it. Dailey can't led the offense without a solid running back. Seguin doesn't have a decent back to help them move the ball.
