Outlook: Once again, the Westlake Chaps look forward to another winning season under highly repsected coach Ron Schroeder. This season the Chaps face the biggest challenge of rebuilding it's entire offense. QB Adam Hall and RB Brett Robin have left to play for the Texas Longhorns. FB Brent Chalmers along with K Dan Walker are among the many starters that left the team. This year squad hopes senior QB Alvin Cowan can guide them deep into the playoffs. Cowan is highly regarded as good as former Westlake Division I standouts Charile Keane, Jay Rodgers, Drew Brees, and Hall. In the new look offense, the Chaps hopes that Drew Brees' little brother, Ried Brees, and Earl Campbell's son, Christian Campbell, can keep up the explosive passing game up left by WRs Clifton Collier and Taylor Jobe. The man in the backfield is Scott Ballew. Brad Beavan will add some competition for the tailback job. The OL will provide tremendous protection for Cowan with T Trevor Harrison (6'6" 245) who squats 400 lbs and will be an all district this season. The defense is strong once again this season with returning starters DT Colby Clark, LB Bryan Schiender, LB Craig Weborn, and Rory McKernan. Last time Westlake had only one returning offensive starter was in 1996, when Drew Brees led them to the state title.
Strength: The defense. The Chaps are looking to dominate this season with ease. The offense look impressive and didn't look like they missed Hall, Robin, Chalmers, Jobe, or Collier when they trashed Humble 42-20 in the Kickoff Classic. Even the coach is a strength. the staff is large and Schroeder is wanted by many colleges.
Weakness: There isn't any concern. The Chaps need to stay healthy and play their hearts out in the playoffs. Don't over look New Braunfels or Bowie to shock the Chaps in district.
