Whether he did or did not assault Susan Strobel, Tommy Cox’s reputation as a good coach has significantly dropped. In 12 years, has he not once won a district championship. Olin Buchanan of the Austin American Statesman wrote an article to defend coaches against parents, stating that coaches do know a thing or two better than parents. Buchanan argued that Cox’s record at Bowie wasn’t a great one or a bad one. However in the minds of Bowie supporters, players, and even the coaching staff the Bulldogs can be better.
Bowie’s football team was the only boys organization sport to make the playoffs. Baseball, Basketball, and Soccer all missed. Just because Cox lead them to the playoffs every year for the past 9 years except for the ’97 season, doesn’t make him a great coach. He is a damn lucky one. Bowie faithfuls expect to make the playoffs. It is EXPECTED.
How in the hell can you not make it to the playoffs every year in a district that features Austin High and Seguin? Bowie has better depth and talent than these two teams put together. Crockett is the only real challenge. If Bowie beats Crockett, than they are in. It is guaranteed they will beat Seguin and Austin. In a previous district, it featured Johnston and San Marcos. Once again talent is always there for Bowie against weak teams. Making the playoffs isn’t a big deal to Bowie. How far you go is the question. Losing to Austin, Johnston, or Seguin deserves an automatic dismisal.
Bowie has the second largest school in the Austin area, second only to Round Rock High School. The talent is always there. Coach Tommy Cox just can’t seem to win games. Olin Buchanan also defend the faggot ass coach by saying
“If Bowie were struggling in football, but succeeding in every other sport, then questioning Cox’s ability would make sense. That’s not the case.”
That is the case. The program is horrible. It has been since 1997. That year was Victor Ike’s senior year. The Bulldogs went 5-5 and missed the playoffs. The next year, they went 3-8 and lost to Bryan in bi-district. The teams they beat were a combine 9-21. This year’s squad is 3-7.
The problem? It’s not because the fact that other Austin teams are better than Bowie and they have more depth and talent as Buchanan quoted. Hell no. No team has more talent than Bowie with the exception to Westlake. Coach Tommy Cox refuses to play the talent he has because he is an IGNORANT and he is a stupid Coach.
In 1996, Bowie lost a bi-district game to Judson 32-31. The score was 31-0 halftime in favor of Bowie. What happen? Buchanan says Judson had more talent and depth, and that depth was a factor because Bowie tired in the second half. BULLSHIT! Fuck that bullshit Buchanand wrote. How in the hell can you be tired when your kicking someone’s ass 31-0 like Judson? Coach Cox decided to play conservative and try to run out the entire second half. What a dumbass. He ran up the middle with Ike. Bowie did not make a first down at all in the second half. Of course also in that game, the referee messed up a call that gave Judson the win.
Coach Cox is the king of all kings when it comes to choking and ignorance.
Bowie can beat any team that steps onto the field. Despite all odds against Bryan in the playoffs last year, the Bulldogs won the Vikings’ respect. That respect should be kept in good peace. Cox is ruining it by losing to crap teams like Westwood, Round Rock, Leander, Pflugerville and the German-fuckers from New Braunfels. Probably the worst defeat ever in Bowie history was last year’s playoff game against Bryan. I got one word for Cox: Field Position. That game was deadlock 0-0. Whoever would score any point would win. Bowie recovered a miraculous fumble deep in their own zone with 47 seconds left. Bowie assistant coach Ed Howell told his players to get ready for overtime. No, Cox would not allow that. He wanted to risk losing the game by winning it with less than a minute left and a whole football field to go. With 20 seconds left, Bowie lost by throwing an interception in the muddy rain. They had 70 yards to go in 20 seconds? All he had to do was go to overtime. He didn’t give his team a chance. He never has given his team a chance. In fact he had an All-American running back last year that sat on the bench. Remember Varsity Blues? Cox is exactly like Bud Kilmer. The All-American running back led Bowie to their only scoring drive against powerhouse Westlake easily, and out gained Austin High in his only quarter than they did the entire game. However he did not take one snap against Bryan the following week. His lead blocker was a star. The all-state linebacker can guarantee you a solid block per play if #31 was running. The regular backfield gave Bowie’s it two worst productive offense in school history. 98 and 99. Chad Wiley and the marijuana infested Cooper are too blame for. Wiley is better on defense cause he is a chump blocker while Cooper just can’t cut it like #31 baby. The power I backfield of #40 and #31 was great and should have been played. Hell #52 can block on some plays. That tells you another thing about Cox. He doesn’t keep he players fresh and rotate players. He has the same damn formation and the same damn players on the field.
Balls. Bowie assistants and Principal Kunt Ewing, I mean Kent Ewing, need to grow some. They all ride Cox’s nut sac. Just give him the pink slip. Bowie’s program will be a lot better off. Running Backs coach Ed Howell wanted to run the all-state backfield but was a pussy to stand up to Cox. Bowie is a program like Westlake. Football is the shit. The south Austin community thrives on it. Cox is killing them. This is the ONLY Coach in Austin that every hates and yet his job is never in jeopardy because he and Kunt Ewing are mommy rapiers that give each other Lewinskys.
Faith. Just like Bud Kilmer in Varsity Blues who gave up on his team when Lance Harbor went down with a knee injury, Cox gave up on them after Omarr Guerrero went down with a career knee injury in the first quarter of the first game last year. He was reading a newspaper during halftime and didn’t give his team a pep talk. What kind of coach is that? The score was 10-3!!! He abuses his players and his player’s parents. He takes bribes. Parents of players who give tons of money to the booster clubs have their less talented crap ass players playing instead of people who can play. He hated the class of ’99. There were so many seniors that did not get to play who worked their asses off. The seniors could all play. It isn’t about football with Cox. It’s if you will give him a Lewinsky or not. The good players did not. The crap ones did and that’s why they played.
So in the end, fuck all that bullshit Bowie has no depth, no talent, and the fact they can’t accept the opponent is better than them. Bowie is better than any Austin area team. Than own every AISD team possible. They can beat the living hell out of any team. Playoffs are expected. Nothing less at Bowie. They prove they can win without a star like Ike because they made the playoffs without him. Westwood can’t do anything without OJ McClintock. It’s the coach. Parents of football players want his ass out. They need a coach who has faith in the team not a person who thinks it’s just a game and takes lots of bribes from parents. This guy can’t coach. It’s simple as that. I can even get an abused horse to testify against him. Will Bowie ever rise again? Not under Dummy Cox they won't. Or does Bowie really just suck?
