WHO: WESTLAKE CHAPARRALS at McNEIL MAVERICKS
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. at Dragon Stadium
RECORDS: Chaps 10-0 (5-0 in district 14-5A), Mavericks 7-3 (3-2 in district 13-5A)
SERIES: Chaparrals lead 2-0
AGAINST COMMON OPPONENTS: Westlake beat Georgetown 38-21, beat Crockett 32-6; McNeil lost to Georgeotwn 13-7, lost to Crockett 14-6
PREVIEW: The Chaps have a 16 game win streak going into their 40th playoff appearance of the ‘90s. McNeil is in their first ever playoff game. This will probably be the last game for the Mavericks because they matchup up against a top notched team against Westlake. The Chaps have central Texas leading passer in QB Alvin Cowan who threw for 1574 yards by completed 97 of 176 passes and 13 Tds and 5 ints. He gets WR Reid Brees back from injury. WR Christian Campbell looks to exploit the McNeil defense that gives up a mere 208.8 yards a game. DB Matt Lucas will try to cover him with the help of speedy DB Patrick Dendy. If the Chaps can’t run against McNeil they’ll open up the field with RB/WR Bredan Dewan (24-236 yards) and WR Christopher Koy. McNeil’s offensive line needs to block well and make no mistakes what so ever. Southpaw QB Jimmy Eierdam needs to hooked up with WR Brian Bulte while RB Kyle Rogers needs to run like a cheetah for the Mavs to make a run at the Chaps. McNeil lost to both common opponents while the Chaps whipped both common oppoenents. Look for the winner of this game to face Conroe or Cy-Fair.

WHO: CROCKETT COUGARS at BRYAN VIKINGS
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. at Viking Stadium
RECORDS: Cougars 5-5 (3-2 in district 14-5A), Vikings 6-4 (4-1 in district 13-5A)
SERIES: Cougars lead 1-0
AGAINST COMMON OPPONENTS: Crockett lost to Westwood 35-27, beat McNeil 14-6; Bryan beat Westwood 26-22, beat McNeil 34-14
PREVIEW: The Vikings enter the playoffs with their 3rd straight district tile on their backs. The Cougars meanwhile had to rely on a bunch of morons form Austin High to enter. The Cougars will struggle will their fullhouse type of offense against a fast, quick Bryan defense. Crockett offense has better stats on both sides of the ball, offensively they rack up 291 yards while surrendering 234. Bryan gives up 272 and averages 253 on offense, only better than Bowie and Austin. The Vikes though play in a different district and thus have the advantage. Crockett needs QB Anton Mackey to step up as a receiver because the option oriented offense will not work on Bryan. Crockett won the only matchup back in 1972. Bryan will come with a full blitzing defense that Crockett’s line will not block. Crockett will wear their brown jerseys. Look for Bryan to face either Klein or Jeresy Village in the next round.

WHO: NEW BRAUNFELS UNICORNS at GEORGETOWN EAGLES
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. at Birkelbach Stadium
RECORDS: Unicorns 6-4 (3-2 in district 14-5A), Eagles 5-5 (4-1 in district 13-5A)
AGAINST COMMON OPPONENTS: New Braunfels lost to Westlake 22-9; Georgetown lost to Westlake 38-21
PREVIEW: Last season, Georgetown ripped apart the Unicorns on Friday the 13th behind the running of Jomo Rose and the defens of Jomoe Rose. This year, the eagles bring in another power back by the name of Brandon Williams. The central Texas leading rusher will have a field day on a New Braunfels defense that gives up 221 yards rushing and 302 yards overall. The Eagles offense gains 293.8 yards and QB Blake Moorman is the district’s second leading passer with 1096 yards. The district champ Eagles hopes of playoffs lays in the defense. The offense will be there but can they stop the wide open attack of The Unicorns. It seems so as the Unicorns have lost two straight to end the year and look pitful in the last 3 games. QB Andy Schmid is the second leading passer in the CenTex region but the defense is horrible. Eric Sultemerier and Clay Coleman are all district potential stars that play both ways. RB Daniel Strange has had a late surge in stats. His missed the 1,000-yard mark by 3 yards and is the district’s leading rusher. The winner faces the winner of The Woodlands-Langham Creek battle.

WHO: COPPERAS COVE BULLDOGS at DeSOTO EAGLES
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. at Maverick Stadium in Arlington
RECORDS: Bulldogs 9-1 (4-1 in district 8-5A), Eagles 6-4
AGAINST COMMON OPPONENTS: N/A
PREVIEW: Copperas Cove is ranked 9th in state coming into this game. The Bulldogs will face a DeSoto team that is not to be overlooked. The Eagles are one of 3 representatives form a hard District 7-5A team that doesn’t have defending state champ Duncanville. Cove averages 338 yards with the running of Vontez Duff and the passing of Nathaniel Foreman. What plagued the Dogs all year was in their only loss this season, they were hurt by a good defense. The Eagleas have one. Last week, they crushed Killeen but this week Desoto has many all district players. QB Jelani Ingram heads the wing-T offense that has a powerful runner in RB Tatum Bell. The Eagels were runner ups last year with a 6-5 record but they also defeated Duncanville racked up the most yards in district. Defensively, Cove gives up 208. As for DeSoto, stopping Duff is the key and forcing turnovers will benfit heavily. Winner faces the winner of the Irving-The Colony game.

WHO: WACO LIONS at MARTIN WARRIORS
WHEN/WHERE: 2:30 p.m. at Maverick Stadium in Arlington
RECORDS: Lions 7-3 (4-1 in district 8-5A), Warriors 6-4
AGAINST COMMON OPPONENTS: N/A
PREVIEW: Waco won a share of the title last week by killing Leander. That was a good thing because they didn’t need any more pressure than they do now. Martin has the home field advantage despite playing at UT-Arlington. The Warriors have one of the best running backs the state has seen this year. RB Jimmy Dixson is the state’s leading rusher with 2,529 yards. His recent big games include 294 yards against South Grand Pararie and 313 yards against Richland. He is the all time Arlington I.S.D.’s leading rusher. Waco has seen all types of offenses this year and this isn’t any different. Waco defense gives up 196 while gaining about 263. The Lions need RB DeMarcus Carter to rowdy up the offense and prove the Copperas Cove game wasn’t a fluke. DB Danielle McLean has had an exceptional season for the Lions. The winner will definitely face the Fighting Farmers from Lewisville where their will end their season.

WHO: TEMPLE WILDCATS at LAMAR VIKINGS
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. at Maverick Stadium in Arlington
RECORDS: Wildcats 7-3 (4-1 in district 8-5A), Vikings 7-3
AGAINST COMMON OPPONENTS: N/A
PREVIEW: Temple squeaked by Ellison tow in a shre of the district title. That would probably best describe’s coach Bob McQueen’s last victory. Lamar is coming off an upset win over state champion Duncanville. The Panthers are not in the playoffs thanks to the Vikings. Lamar will attack with WR/DB Reggie Herrell has played superb for them. QB Mike Burke played in the secondary last season for the Vikes. The OL is bulked up with heavy guys who can lay the smack down. Tmeple QB Dustin Pleasant isn’t as good of a quarterback to lead the ‘Cats to a victory over Lamar. The ‘Cats average 313 on offense but Lamar is coming in from a very strong district. The winner will face either South Grand Prarie or Irving Nimitz.
