WHO: WESTLAKE CHAPARRALS vs CONROE TIGERS
WHO: BRYAN VIKINGS at KLEIN BEARKATS
WHO: GEORGETOWN EAGLES vs THE WOODLANDS HIGHLANDERS
WHO: LEWISVILLE FARMERS at WACO LIONS
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. at Rhodes Stadium in Katy, TX
RECORDS: Chaps 11-0, Tigers 9-2
PREVIEW: Westlake received a scare last week from McNeil. That game however could have been easily put away if WR Christian Campbell made some key catches. The offense still gained over 300 yards behind the running of RB Brendan Dewan. He ran for 135 yards and scored a touchdown. QB Alvin Cowan was 6/18 for 118 yards and threw a touchdown. WR Reid Brees return to action and is going to be a key factor against Conroe. Conroe is coming off a win over Cy-Fair. To stop the Chaps undefeated record in 5A area playoffs, the Tigers need RB Jason Holmes who has 2,160 yards and 20 TDs to crack the goal line as many times as possible. The Chaps defense is averaging 189.1 yards this year and their sub-players have been doing a nice job filling in for injuries this year. On defense for Conroe, LB Zack Laake anchors an experience defense. Former Westlake coach Bobby Etheredge is the head coach for Conroe. The winner will mostly likely play Garland who plays Lufkin this week.
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. at Klein Stadium
RECORDS: Vikings 7-4, Bearkats 7-4
PREVIEW: Bryan tore up Crockett last week. Crockett ran the same plays over and over. They ran the kick sweep out of the fullhouse formation to the left. Bryan also had a ten-man line on the punt return. They ended up getting two great field positions of deflections and blocks. The Cougars weren't much of a challenge. The Bearkats could be. Klein won the 15-5A district title in 1998 but this year had to fill in the void of 41 lettermen lost. For both teams to win they must continue to outplay their opponent. Bryan will rely on a speedy defense led by Marquis Turner. Bryan figures to easily win this game because of the lack of competition last week. Klein upsetted Jersey Village last week but need their young defense to hold down Bryan. DB Jeff Herbert is the ace. On offense the 'Kats will rely on two backs, Ed Bailey and Earl Morris to eat up the clock. The winner goes on to face Mesquite or Tyler Lee. Lee earlier defeated Bryan.
WHEN/WHERE: 2:00 p.m. at Moorhead Stadium in Conroe, TX
RECORDS: Eagles 6-5, The Woodlands 9-2
PREVIEW: The Eagles assured themselves with a winning season by defeating New Braunfels last week. This week they face The Woodlands who crushed Langham Creek last week. The Highlanders are 1of 3 teams from the district 15-5A district they won all their bi-district matchups. Brandon Williams is Georgetown's key to success. He must have the line open up for him. QB Blake Moorman needs to hook up with WR Nick Otto to open up the running game because the Highlanders are coming in strong. DT Victor Hernandez is a pole and will be hard to run through. The secondary is their weakness and is a young one. On offense, The Woodlands have an all state type of QB in Chance Mock. He can throw and run the option with his speed. Watch him to throw it to WR Shane Jensen . Last year, the Eagles beat the Highlanders 15-12. The winner faces either Plano East or Kimball.
WHEN/WHERE: 7:30 p.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, TX
RECORDS: Farmers 11-0, Lions 8-3
PREVIEW: The Lions are now up to their biggest exam of the year. This week they face 2 two division 5A state champion Lewisville. If they survive this week, they will definitely face Midland Lee. For the Lions to win, their offense just has to score on every opportunity possible or else the wishbone attack from Lewisville will run them out of the game. The Farmers are lead by QB Darren Stephens. The wishbone style of Lewisville creates many 1,00-yard rushers a year and this year includes RB Jordan Kramer. Last week the Farmers keep their undefeated season alive by escaping Trinity. On defense, the Lions have been spectacular. They upsetted Copperas Cove earlier with defense. They whipped Leander with defense. If the want to pull off another they must play containment and force as many turnovers as possible to stay in the game. Lewisville averages 60 carries a game. The linebacking core for Waco are leading by Derrick Johnson and Gerald Benson. DL Darrell Caitlin and DB Danielle McLean have been playing great all year and need to continue if they want a shot at state. They have the toughest road yet. The real state championship could be next week between #2 Lewisville and #1 Midland Lee.
