THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 1999
Who: CROCKETT COUGARS AT WESTWOOD WARRIORS
When/Where: 7:00 p.m. Dragon Stadium
Records: Cougars 1-1, Warriors 1-1
Against Common Opponents in 1998: Crockett lost to Bowie 24-20, Westwood beat Bowie 33-23, Crockett beat Austin High 25-0, Westwood beat Austin High 54-0, Crockett lost to McNeil 14-7, Westwood beat McNeil 21-11, Crockett lost to Westlake 51-2, Westwood lost to Westlake 65-7

Preview: Crockett has been plagued with injuries this week. Just when they found themselves a replacement when QB Cameron Slown down in last week's loss to Leander, QB Anton Mackey is out. Slown is schedule to start . He is expected to be the game's biggest threat for the Coogs who have hardly any running from RB Vincent Roland . Westwood, meanwhile, have a big running back that has come through for them. Will Matthews gained over a 100 last week against Bowie and figures to guide the Warriors with sidekick FB Ryan Long. Westwood won last year's game easily 41-18.

When/Where: 7:00 p.m. at Nelson Field
Records: Mavericks 2-0, Jaguars 1-1
Against Common Opponents in 1998: McNeil lost to Hays 15-12, LBJ lost to Hays

Preview: McNeil is looking for its first 3-0 start in school history. This team is not a one-dimensional team. They can run behind Kyle Rogers, pass with QB Jimmy Eiderman, and receive in WR Brian Bulte . The Jags look to stuff the run with 8 men up front led by Eddie Roland. Offensively LBJ handles the run through Lawerence Henderson but look for them to pass to Robert Moore. McNeil won last year's game 10-7 in Round Rock.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMEBER 17, 1999

Who: BOWIE BULLDOGS at REAGAN RAIDERS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Nelson Field
Records: Bulldogs 0-2, Raiders 1-1
Series: Raiders lead series 4-3
Against Common Opponents in 1998: Bowie lost to Westlake 31-3, Reagan lost to Westlake 42-6

Preview: Bowie and Reagan come into the game with lots of speed. However Reagan will not be able to run the option as well they think they can. Last year, it seemed Reagan would use Terrance Calhoun to run all over Bowie. The Raiders and Bulldogs both failed to scored an offensive touchdown before last year's overtime win by Reagan. Things should change as Bowie brings in Alexis Cooper ( 258 yards). Bowie has only 18 points this season but look for Jason McPhaul to produce with his speedy sophomore receiver Hunter Farris. Defensively for Bowie, they must stop a Reagan offense that racks up 290.5 yards a game. Justin Reed and Jared Moss have been playing exceptionally well for Bowie. Reagan RB Stephon King (155 yards) will try to exploit a Bowie defense that allows 279.5 yards. Raiders will attack with QB Jahmal Fenner and WR Carl Nance.

Who: ELLISON EAGLES at WESTLAKE CHAPARRALS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Chaparral Stadium
Records: Eagles 0-2, Chaps 3-0
Against Common Opponents in 1998: Ellison beat Waco, Westlake beat Waco 16-0

Preview: The Chaps look to avenge last season's loss. Westlake figures to dominate this entire game since Ellison struggles to win without Reggie Duncan. However, despite Westlake's 438.7 offensive yards and Ellison's 318 defensive yards, Eagles are pumped and cite about playing in this game. Robert Sanders wants to improve the run which Ellison is now a pass oriented team behind Jackie Brown. Westlake can rely on Rory McKernan and Eric Olsen to put the pressure on. As usual, the Chaps are lead offensively QB Alvin Cowan (749 passing), WRs Ryan Reid (15-260) and Christian Campbell (8-269).

Who: AUSTIN HIGH MAROONS at TRAVIS REBELS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Burger Center
Records: Maroons 1-1, Rebels 0-2
Against Common Opponents in 1998: Austin High lost to McCallum 21-0, Travis beat McCallum in OT

Preview: The Maroons looked impressive last week in defeated McCallum. Travis on the other hand must look to improve a weak defense that gives up big yardage and big scores. The Rebels have given up 86 points in the first to games. Maroons look to QB Zach Meyer and RB Jordan Stone to operate. RB Michael Ervin figures to be a big threat with his speed. He scored two TDs last week. Travis runs with two RBs. James Cleveland who has 207 yards rushing and Jason Palmore 105 yards rushing. The Maroons won their only game last season over Travis at House Park 30-13.

Preview: Last year, Lanier won its homecoming by defeating Leander 35-20. However, this year the Lions bring in a dominating offense led by Matt Davis (214 yards rushing). The Lions also have a grungy defense that should be able to pitch another shutout towards a Viking offense that has yet to score in 1999. The Lions are expected to trash the Vikes badly with their 339.0 yards of offense per game to a re-cooperating defense. Coming back from injuries are DT/TE Sonny Davis, DT/TE Andre Ewing, and RBs Prentiss Leaks and Chad Watters.

Who: JUDSON ROCKETS at ROUND ROCK DRAGONS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Dragon Stadium
Records: Rockets 2-1, Dragons 1-1
Against Common Opponents in 1998: N/A

Preview: This game is all Rockets. No doubt about this one. State ranked Judson has a defense that is too much for Round Rock. This defense will stuff the run as Buzzy Earl is expected to return for the Dragons. The Rockets defense should maintain the run at whatever Round Rock throws at them. QB Cris Love must find his receivers if Round Rock is to have a chance. Jeremy Stone and Chris Lewis must stop the Judson offense led by QB Jarrett Jachade and RB Chris Brown.

Who: BELTON TIGERS at PFLUGERVILLE PANTHERS

Preview: Belton stuffed Georgetown last week and should stuff the power running game of Pflugerville. Pflugerville has an offense that clicks on and off weekly. This week Tigers QB Cody Fredenburg hopes to make a statement that Belton isn't a push over. Belton averages 305 yards and gives up 233.5 ypg. They hope to take advantage of Pflugerville's 300-yard defense. The Panthers hope that their high scoring offense can repeat last year's 37-21 trampling of Belton. Anthony Krieg has gained 228 yards while QB Phillip Moss has a great receiver in Anderson Smith. RB Sean Petty figures to be a counter for Pflugerville.

Who: HAYS REBELS at GEORGETOWN EAGLES
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Eagle Field
Records: Rebels 0-2, Eagles 0-2
Against Common Opponents in 1998: Hays beat McNeil 15-12, Georgetown beat McNeil 40-3.

Preview: Both teams are looking for their first win of the season. Last year, Hays won 19-14 but Georgetown looks to have the edge. Black Moorman has 270 yards passing and his favorite target is Nick Otto who has 8 catches for 96 yards. But Georgetown is a running team and following the footsteps of Lee Lundin and Jomo Rose is Brandon Williams (277 yards rushing). He looks to run over a vulnerable Rebel defense that gives up 282 yards. Do Hays miss QB David Evans? Yes, they do. He racked up all the ground, which this year is lacking in its 172 yards a game. Stephon Martinez is Hays' running attack. QB David Young must step up and be a leader.

Against Common Opponents in 1998: N/A

Preview: Class 4A state ranked Clemens looks to win again. Last year Clemens won 32-10. Clemens is coming off a Division II regional finalist season. Scott Hall is an all around player for the Buffaloes. Another player that plays solid on both sides is OT/DT Nathan Heiman. Look for him to put pressure of New Braunfels QB Andy Schimd. RB Patrick Jackson will run the ball for the Buffs and Tate Taylor will try to squeeze in some running plays for the Unicorns.

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium
Records: Matadors are 2-0, Rattlers 2-0
Against Common Opponents in 1998: N/A

Preview: The Rattlers and Matadors are both undefeated going into the game. Like last year, San Marcos should pull out the win. The Mats have to prove to the world that they aren't pushovers and the wins weren't flukes. The stingy defense of Seguin will get a big test from San Marcos two premiere rushers, Juan Batiste and Lukinrick Ellison. The Mats must rely on QB Craig Dailey to pull through or else S Larry Threadgill and Robert Walker will be making big plays for the Rattlers.

Who: BRYAN VIKINGS at TEMPLE WILDCATS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium
Records: Vikings 1-1, Wildcats 2-0

Who: WACO LIONS at UNIVERSITY TROJANS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at University
Records: Lions 1-1
Against Common Opponents in 1998: N/A

Preview: Waco RB DeMarcus Carter is a big running threat to the Trojans. They must stop him if they have a chance to stay with a 5A team. RB Datron Mitchell and QB Chris Demerson must operate the offense for University. Ronald Daniels must be the bulk of the defensive line and LB Derek Degrate must help him in stopping the Lions rushing attack.

The Hippos have great running in Jarvis Johnson and Adam Stover. The offense in Cedar Park is RB Quinton Smith. Michael Swoda will he counter him with is running ability and his passing ability. Aaron Lyons is the only receiver the T'Wolves have thrown to. Both of these offenses have scored more than 40 points by halftime in each of their game. Look for things to change with the Hippos defense. Michael McGuinness is the showstopper on defense for Cedar Park.
