Who: BOWIE BULLDOGS at SEGUIN MATADORS
When/Where:7:30 p.m. at Matador Stadium
Records: Bulldogs 2-6 (1-2 in district), Matadors 4-4 (1-2 in district)
Series: Bulldogs lead 4-1
Against Common Opponents in 1999: Bowie beat Crockett 8-0 (OT), lost to New Braunfels 36-15; Seguin lost to Crockett 35-18, lost to New Braunfels 36-16

Preview: Seguin shot themselves in the foot last week by giving up 14 early points to Crockett. Bowie on the other hand got bombed by Westlake 58-7. Both teams are now 1-2 in district. Bowie figures to have the upper hand winning 4 over Seguin and host Austin High next week. The Matadors rely on the running game of RB Boomer Jones (740 yards, 12 TDs). QB Craig Dailey added another interception to his league leading total of 9. The Matadors average only 261 yards of offense. That is good news for the worst ranked defense. The Dawgs after giving up over 500 yards of total offense lost to the Chaps at homecoming. Bowie gives up 305.8 yards and only average 208.6 yards. Seguin gives up 268 yards a game. Depsite last week's predictions, DB Alex Cantu had a great game with an interception that led to Bowie's only score last week. Bowie's offense needs RB Alexis Cooper to stepped up because the passing cannot go on with QB Ty Branyon aiming only towards WR Hunter Farris. Bowie completed only 2 of 14 passes last week. Last year, Bowie won their homecoming on Halloween 35-14 over Seguin. Seguin hasn't beaten the Bulldogs since Bowie first opened their inaugural game in 1988.

Who: CROCKETT COUGARS at AUSTIN HIGH MAROONS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at House Park
Records: Cougars 3-5 (1-2 in district), Maroons 2-6 (0-3 in district)
Against Common Opponents in 1999: Crockett beat McNeil 14-6, lost to Westwood 35-27, lost to Westlake 32-6; Austin High lost to McNeil 35-21, lost to Westwood 35-7, lost to Westlake 51-0

Preview: The Crockett Cougars are in a must win situation. Bowie has Seguin and Austin High remaining in their schedule. The Coogs have to beat the Maroons and upset New Braunfels for the second year in a row if they have a shot at the playoffs. Austin High's offense stature is perfect for anybody's defense, especially Crockett. Crockett gives up 248 and Austin averages only 168.4. The reason is because of the running back problems they had all year. No Maroon running backs have 4 or more TDs, 500 yards, and the QB Zach Meyer has one touchdown pass and seven interceptions. Last year Crockett shutout Austin 25-0. QB Anton Mackey led the Coogs to a victory and has been a lot better than his predecessor QB Cameron Slown.

Who: WESTLAKE CHAPARRALS at NEW BRAUNFELS UNICORNS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Unicorn Stadium
Records: Chaps 8-0 (3-0 in district), Unicorns 5-3 (3-0 in district)
Series: Chaparrals lead 9-0
Against Common Opponents in 1999: Westlake beat Bowie 58-7, beat Austin 51-0; New Braunfels beat Bowie 35-16, beat Austin 28-14

Preview: This game was already marked as the district title game prior to opener. Westlake is going strong and played excellent. Last week, nothing went wrong for the Chaps. The racked up 504 yards and 58 points against Bowie. The Chaps are the best team stats wise. The have the #1 offense (393.3) and the #1 defense (182.5). Ranked 3rd in state, the Chaps dropped because of the weak schedule. 10,000 fans are schedule to attend the game. Last week, the Unicorns didn't' look to good and escaped Austin with a 28-14 win. New Braunfels defense chopped down to size from 320 to 288. They will need to step up more than ever if they want to upset Westlake. QB Andy Schmid must hit WR Eric Sutlemerier and get the wide-open offense attack going. RB Daniel Strange needs to open the ground game for a balanced attack. The Chaps are still without WR Reid Brees but get LB Colby Clark back. QB Alvin Cowan scored a 20 yarder last week but the big story was RB Brendan Dewan. He scored on a 56 yard reverse that WR Christian Campbell ran the drive earlier for a score. Last year, Westlake escaped with a 38-31 overtime win.

Who: PFLUGERVILLE PANTHERS at GEORGETOWN EAGLES
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Eagle Field
Records: Panthers 4-4 (2-1 in district), Eagles 4-4 (3-0 in district)
Against Common Opponents in 1999: Pflugerville lost to Belton 13-9, beat Round Rock 24-14, beat Westwood 20-17; Georgetown lost to Belton 20-14, beat Westwood 17-14, beat Round Rock 28-14

Preview: Georgetown can just about wrap up district officially with a win or a Bryan loss to Round Rock. Knowing Bryan can possibly lost to the Dragons, the Eagles will take care of business now. RB Brandon Williams is falling in the lines of great Eagle running backs before him. He leads central Texas with 1,160 yards and 10 TDs. The Eagles have decent passing and receiving from QB Blake Moorman and WR Nick Otto. The defense was superb last week against Round Rock. The "D" gives up 285.5 though. Pflugerville can just about say good-bye to football season unless they upset the Eagles or Bryan next week while Westwood beat McNeil this week and Georgetown beat McNeil next week and Round Rock to upset Westwood next week. Unlikely possibility but possible. The offense isn't there. 254 yards a game. This on and off shit won't work and they need QB Phillip Moss to get a passing game going. RB Anthony Kreig has 813 yards but can't find the end zone. Last year, Georgetown won 20-3. Georgetown can look at the New Braunfels tape this week to prepare themselves for battle.

Who: McNEIL MAVERICKS at WESTWOOD WARRIORS

When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Dragon Stadium
Records: Mavericks 6-2 (2-1 in district), Warriors 4-4 (0-3 in district)
Against Common Opponents in 1999: McNeil beat Austin 35-21, lost to Crockett 14-6, lost to Bryan 34-14; Westwood beat Austin 35-7, beat Crockett 35-27, lost to Bryan 26-22

Preview: Westwood is now playing for pride. They can still cause a 3-way tie for 3d but they lost out in tie breaking situations. McNeil assured itself a winning season. The Mavs have a good balanced offense attack with the passing of QB Jimmy Eiderman (738 yards, 7TDs, 4INTS), running of RB Paul Gray and RB Kyle Rogers, and the big receiving plays from WR Brian Bulte (33-693). The defense has held their stand with a 196.3 average. Westwood's defense has too improved overall. 263.3 yards a game since averaging over 300 in the first 3 games. The defense is vulnerable and plays like crap with it comes to "execution". The defense gave up 19 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to Bryan. RB Ryan Long has 13 TDs this year. RB Will Matthews has 8 TDs and 896 yards. The Warriors won last year's game 20-11.

Who: ROUND ROCK DRAGONS at BRYAN VIKINGS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Viking Field
Records: Dragons 1-7 (0-3 in district), Vikings 4-4 (2-1 in district)
Against Common Opponents in 1998: Round Rock lost to McNeil 25-7, lost to Georgetown 28-14; Bryan beat McNeil 34-13, lost to Georgetown 17-10

Preview: Those bastards from Bryan can start getting ready for the Big Dawgs from Bowie. Bryan just can from behind as usual to beat Westwood 26-22 last week. Round Rock has lost 7 straight since stealing an opening day win over Bowie. Bryan's defense was hurt last week but the defense that gives up 269 must not fall to a Round Rock team that only gains 240.9. Round Rock needs an offensive booster bad. QB Cris Love needs an another option than WR Jon Peoples who can easily be covered. RB Buzzy Earl got his second TD of the season last week. Last year, Bryan ripped Round Rock of homecoming 12-9.

Who: KILLEEN KANGAROOS at LEANDER LIONS
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at A.C. Bible Jr. Memorial Stadium
Records: Kangaroos 2-6 (0-3 in district), Lions 4-4 (0-3 in district)
Against Common Opponents in 1998: Leander lost to Ellison 47-7, lost to Temple 34-14; Killeen lost to Ellison 38-15, lost to Temple 28-6

Preview: What can we say about both of these teams. Nothing much. This game is to decide who's not going to finish dead last with a 0-5 record. Next week, Leander will lose to Waco and Killeen will lose to Copperas Cove. The Lions offense has been smack down by every opponent. RB Matt Davis has struggle big time and it cost them. Last week, Leander trailed 47-0 in the fourth. The defense have dropped their ranked to 13th and offense to 10th. Killeen's speedy secondary is ready to contain Davis. 277 is the average and on offense the stats are 241.8. Most of the rushing is from RB Nick Sessions who has gained 743 yards. Both of these teams have young rising stars to look forward to next season. Last year, Killeen won 13-7 and finished ahead of Leander at 5th place.

Who: TEMPLE WILDCATS at COPPERAS COVE
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium
Records: Wildcats 6-2 (3-0 in district), Bulldogs 7-1 (2-1 in district)
Against Common Opponents in 1999: Temple beat Leander 34-14, beat Waco 10-7; Copperas Cove beat Leander 42-10, lost to Waco 24-7

Preview: This game was suppose ably between two undefeated district teams. However, as Waco put its, "That's why they played the games." Copperas Cove fell out the state rankings with a 24-7 loss but more importantly the district title race. Temple is now 3-0 and guarantees district with a win over Cove. RB Vontez Duff was held to 77 yards. RB Aaron Mickens had to pick up his slack. With last week's homecoming win, Temple is riding high these days. RB Sharrod Bridges broke through in the second half last week and QB Dustin Pleasant has become a big threat for teams both air and ground. The matchups: Cove (341 offense, 204.9 defense), Temple (307 offense, 250.9 defense). Last season, Cove beat Temple.

Who: WACO LIONS at ELLISON EAGLES
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Leo Buckley Stadium Stadium
Records: Lions 5-3 (2-1 in district), Eagles 4-4 (2-1 in district)
Against Common Opponents in 1999: Ellison beat Killeen 38-16, lost to Copperas Cove 27-6; Waco beat Killeen 15-7, beat Copperas Cove 24-7

Preview: Coach Johnny Tusa has broken through once again. This week he is an underdog to Ellison. Last week he proved anything is possible for Waco. Both teams are 2-1 and vying for their playoff lives. Waco's defense has been nothing more than spectacular. Last week, Darrell Catlin forced 3 fumbles. The defense gives up a mere 194 and will have a feast against Leander next week. Even without QB Johnny Akers and RB DeMarcus Carter the Lions win games. The offense has a 259 average. The Eagles offense came to life last week in ripping Leander up 47-7. This is a new game and RB Robert Sanders needs to perform last week's stellar game and the defense needs to improve on it's 288 average. Last season, Ellison beat Waco.

Who: CEDAR PARK TIMBERWOLVES at SACRED HEART
When/Where: 7:30 p.m. at Hallettsville, TX
Records: Timberwovles 8-0, Heart 5-4 (4-1 in district)
Against Common Opponents in 1999: None

Preview: Cedar Park will finally get a good test from Sacred Heart. Last year, the Timberwovles lost to Sacred Heart. Cedar Park is just coming off another repeat thrashing of Lago Vista. The T'Wolves scored 69 points in the first half and average 445 yards a game. Defensively, they give up only 117 yards. Sophomore RB Quinton Smith has 19 TDs while grinding out 1361 yards. RB Raymond Ferguson is his counter partner with 643 yards and 7 TDs. QB Michael Swoda worked his passing game last week and boosted his passing stats to 422 yards and 5 TDs. Sacred Heart is coming off a 28-0 shutout of Bay Area Christian. They are led by RBs Cody Johnson, Daniel Stoneking, and Dale Halata. The passing is not much of a threat. Cedar Park should be able stop them this year. Next year, CPHS is bound for the current 26-4A district that includes Connally, Lake Travis, Marble Falls, and Belton.
